Intro
At The Current Factor, we’ve come to believe that there’s a huge disconnect between The-Church-at-large and real, everyday people. The connection used to be more of a given – built into the fabric of the way things worked. Church buildings were literally at the center of towns and town life. School schedules, work schedules and retail schedules were all determined by the calendar of the church. You didn’t have to try so hard to get people into church, it was just natural for them to go.

But, that’s not the world we live in anymore. The church has been pushed to the margins of society…and we have often even helped that process along.
There have been lots of debates in recent years about the idea of cultural relevance. We’re not going to re-fight those battles here. Relevance isn’t our agenda for this Branding Kit – even if we do think it’s a good idea. As we see it, the task facing the church is really about re-establishing lines of communication and eventually relationship between the church and everyday people. Which is a bit bigger than relevance.
Say, for example, a particular church decided to be pro-relevance, and bought all the stuff, assembled the team and learned the lingo to make relevance happen. Then they opened The First Church of Relevance for their first Sunday, just expecting the people to start flocking in. Would they? Not necessarily. The “If you build it they will come” mindset might work for 80’s baseball movies, but it doesn’t seem to be working for the modern church.
People are disconnected from The Church. There aren’t the natural funnels toward church life that there used to be. The momentum is toward shrinking churches, toward people who believe in God but don’t participate in church. We believe that it’s our responsibility to re-establish the connecting points – us the big “C” Church.
That’s what our Branding Kit is all @bout: connection. You already have your vision, your dream of what your church will be. We want to help you think strategically so you can get people connected to you. People who may be pretty different from you, and not naturally inclined to trust or value you. This kit is based on strategies that people in the business world have developed to facilitate this very same goal of connection. The Current Factor has customized these strategies for you to use as you plant and grow your new church. So, let’s get to this connecting!
